DirectX 10.1 standalone for Vista?

I've noticed that DirectX 10.1 is only available for Vista if you d/l SP1. Can you d/l it standalone from anywhere other than the MS website; seems funny as 9c ships with most games, and can be grabbed as an .exe all over the net.

I just can't seem to find the same for 10+ any ideas?

The only game that supported it was Assasins Creed. Anyway you NEED SP1 to have it i guess.

Exactly my thought? SP1 has better performance overall anyway not just DX10.1 support.

it is not just a simple update, there are lots of hidden differences that allow 10.1. you will need to update.

DX10.1 is pointless at the moment and SP1 is too, the only thing SP1 does is speed up file transfers, might aswell of done that in a stand alone update instead of making people download 200+mb.

Was only ~60MB for a fully updated system.

How is it pointless? It contained several hundred fixes. Several of them were not released as hotfixes.

One of those fixes was to fix SPDIF output on 64-bit OS when using a 32-bit application, along with the usual several fixes to do with hibernation

And I'm sure DX10.1 is quite useful to developers.

I think the OP is asking why the DirectX Runtime hasn't been updated to DX10.1 yet. That I don't know. It might be because the driver model needs to be updated and thus requires SP1.

Dx10.1 is what Dx10 should have been imo, shame its never going to be used thanks to Nvidia.

Not true, I installed all the hot fixes before and most of them were possible fixes, on several systems they made smeg all difference and SP1 fixed it on the couple I've installed it on. But the whole point is its easier to install SP1 rather than run windows update 4-5 times upon reinstalling windows. The reason for SP's is to bundle all the updates into one aswell as add a few updates that needed longer term testing and new features(if they want).


I don't know why people expect a completely different operating system pre/post service packs.
