Directx 10.1

Will the Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX, run directx 10.1 as well as directx 10?

DX10.0 only.

there is hardly any difference between DX10.0 and 10.1 apart from free 4XAA I think, but for DX10.1's features you will need a DX10.1 card, DX10.1 games will run with DX10.0 cards just not use DX10.1's features.

"DirectX 10.1 fully supports DirectX 10 hardware. No hardware support is being removed. It's strictly a superset. It's basically an update to DirectX 10 that extends the hardware functionality slightly."

So, although DirectX 10.1 will support current DirectX 10 graphics hardware, today's DirectX 10 hardware will not be able to support all of the features of DirectX 10.1, which includes incremental improvements to 3D rendering quality.

kk, so do u guys think that gtting a 8800 GTX will be alright for the next few years of gaming?

It should be okay for the next year at least anyway. There isn't any news of a graphically ground-breaking game at the minute that will require anything beyond the 8800 Ultras. (Before anyone says Crysis, its graphically amazing, but not impossible to run).

kool, well thanx guy for fast responses and good advice, I think al be getting a gtx soon. Current games will be mint and hope fully crysis will be everything its been raving about. Once again thanx guys

It does include shader model 4.1 though. Who would have thought an X800XT PE would have become obsolete before a 6600GT? It happened with Bioshock.

I refused to touch the Xxxx series of ATI cards because they were a shader model behind the nVIDIA equivalent. Didn't affect my desktop because I upgrade often enough for it not to make a difference but I'm glad I went for the Go 6600 in my old notebook (just given away actually but nevermind) over the Mobility X700 that was the main alternative. The X700 was actually the higher performing part but it was the first to not meet the minimum requirements of a game.
