UNFORTUNATELY, we were wrong about DirectX 9.0 L.

We managed to confirm the existence of DirectX 9.0L but it won't be a DirectX 10 for Windows XP. It will be the other way around. It is a faster version of DirectX 9.0 that will run under Vista only.

So I have to disappoint all of you who expected to run DirectX 10 games under Windows XP (and apologise, huh, Fudo? News Ed.) as there won't be an API to supports it.

I so dont want to upgrade to vista immediately when its out. Same way as it wasnt necessary to upgrade from win 98se to win xp. Infact games where less compatable on win xp for quite some time.

Isnt that just SP1 for XP wont be supported at the end of 2006? They cant just wave goodbye to XP for good now and not update it anymore.

SP1 support was discontinued on the 10th of this month. If XP support is being discontinued at the end of this year that is just a joke IMO.

its what Microsoft do....you need to buy their new app in that case! Its what happens!

XP (assuming you have the latest SP - currently SP2) will be support under the mainstream support phase for two years after it's successor and 5 years after that for extended support.

In short XP is in support until Jan 2007 as mainstream and Jan 2012 as extended.

Sheesh - I wish these "journalists" would at least do some basic fact checking - it's on the MS website.

If 3 grand fell from a tree i'd consider it! But no way would i spend my hard earned cash on something like that!

Think i'll give it a year - by then there'll be cheaper vista/dx10 specced kit out and i'll be able to upgrade my system for (crossing fingers!) under a grand!
