Hi guys,

I have a friend whose PC seems to crash frequently while playing BF3 (And only BF3, apparently). The screen freezes, his sound loops and his mouse becomes unresponsive. Pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del will free up Task Manager to allow him to end BF3. From there everything is back to normal and he can re-run BF3 until he is stopped again.

The message is as follows

DirectX Function GetDeviceRemovedReason Failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG : Device hung due to badly formed commands..GPU:"NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580". Driver 31407".

Or to that effect.

He has already tried the usual, remove drivers, reinstall, update etc (This has been happening over the course of a few drivers, so it's not just affecting the most up to date). He has also checked the temps and such, but all are fine.

Has anyone ever encountered this before or have any idea what exactly is causing it?

Appreciate anyone's input.

Thankyou.

This is such a pain in the ass. I get the same on my 660's and there doesn't appear to be a solid resolution. As stated in another forum, why buy BF4 when we can't play BF3!!!!

Anyone know a fix for this?
Getting this error myself.. Running a 7950 on windows 8 atm. Every other game is perfect.. :(

Turn off your AA. Weird but I did it and it seems to have stopped the issue. I have it set to application decides in nvidia control panel and I had enabled AA thru the game.

I used to get this with a MSI GTX580 OC but when I set it to reference levels and the problem went away, the problem was a lot of vendors were shipping pre-overclocked GTX580's with too low a voltage, a few of them released new BIOS's with increased voltage but you'll do well to find them now.

One of the possible causes of this error, though not always the case is a modified or too small page file. Try increasing the pagefile or set it back to auto.

I only get this if I push my card too far.

Try different drivers or slightly underclocking the card - if underclocking helps, send the card back

+1
i had the same prob, msi never released a newer bios and setting the stock speeds with after burner didn't work for me. neither did increasing the core voltage.
I eventually started encountering similar direct x related errors with other games (crysis 2 on directx11, crysis 3, far cry 3 etc). I gave up trying to find a fix after months of searching and decided to change the card.
