Hi, I'm getting a PC with a crappy GPU until i upgrade about a monh or so later.

The GPU is DirectX 9(6200GS)

Will this be okay for running Windows 7 with, or should I get one with DirectX 10, but I hear it should be okay as that only applies to games.

would be a waste of money to get a DX10 card just for the OS...even to buy one for a game i would say but thats debatable

That GPU should be fine for windows 7.

You won't get aero desktop if that bothers you, you need a DX10 compliant card.

are you sure about that ?

fairly sure i had it running fine prior to a 8800gts and thats a DX9 card

it probably wont run with every Dx9 card as you probably need certain features and a certain amount of memory but that requiring a DX10 isnt true as far i recall.

could be wrong tho my memory is a bit poor at times

The 8800GTS is a DX10 card, but I think you are right about aero only requiring a DX9 card.

i'm not bothered about the aero for 30 days
