DirectX10

there was a rumour floating around that G80 is just 7900 core modified to work with DX10, surely that can't be right or R600 would nuke it :D

well in a way they are all just modified versions of the previous core as they never totally scrap the design, just build upon it :)

I think that with vista, directx 10 and a load of new cpu's on the market, i am going to wait for my next upgrade.

My planned future build is below

Quad Core Conroe
Decent DDR2 RAM
Top range Directx 10 card
Perpendicular 1Tb hard Drive

I should only have to wait till the Q1 of 2007, buy then quad core should be out and any issues resolved as a few chipset revisions will undoubtly take place after its release. Directx 10 should be on its second generation by this time. and the large HDD's should be out, and with HD content out that space maybe needed in the future.

There is also the fact the Vista will be a buggy piece of crap when it's released, so I wont be touching it until at least the first service pack. No DX10 for me for a while. But I don't care, in the grand scheme of things I have only had my X1900 5 minutes :D

Also no one has mentioned it, but isnt Vista supposed to have some serious DRM restrictions, so if you want to have thier full use you will practically need a new computer (new monitor, graphics card, mobo, HDD), as they will all need to support MS DRM.
