Dirty Disk Error

Right, I keep getting dirty disk errors, jumpy video in GOW, non loading on Saints row and PGR and it is making some horrendous noises. So im thinking I am going to have to give Microsoft a ring.

My console is just over a year old (got one in the second batch) so Im thinking MS are going to charge me to get it fixed. Any ideas of what the going rate for this is?

If its over a year old they will try but by law your entitled to it being replaced. There was a thread a few days ago about a similar problem I will try to find it.

Edit: didnt take long since it was only half way down this page :rolleyes: have a read through that as it has all the information you need rather then me or someone else regergatating the same stuff. Read mostly what VIRII has to say.

My brother are getting this problem and im planning on taking it back to place of purchase for replacement or refund.

It was a prem pack with gears of war from one of the smaller game speacialists with that fat bloke on the adverts, can anyone confirm that they was able to swop over the harddrives to keeep your game save data as im sure my brother wont be to please loosing them heheh.

Right I phoned MS yesterday to ask how much it will be to fix, £85!!

I obviously said no so I have ordered myself a core console for £150, thus gaining me 12 months warranty and a new system.

Im hoping to sell my old premium minus all the premium goodies HD etc in an auction making people aware of the fault on the system, hoping to gain about £100 for the system. It plays games fine most of the time but sometimes it will just hang and tell me to clean my disk, even though the disk is spotless.

The final straw was today when it crashed when I was a yard away from finishing a rooftop race on crackdown.
 
You need to take it back to the place you purchased it from if you want to try going down the Sale of Goods Act route. Microsoft are within their rights to charge if you contact them directly.
 
I've got this exact problem too - the 360 works fine, but every now and then I'll get dirty disc errors (Tiger Woods, PGR, RS6V) or the odd crash - even in Texas Holdem.

I assumed that because the machine wasn't dead it would be a nightmare trying to get a refund out of MS/Store - even though it's less than 6 months old.
