Dirty stinking lying conmen

I would've kicked off after finding that out, daylight robbery.

As bad as theft IMO. The worst of it is, the older generation do fall for it.

The fact you even had to check..

It never actually occured to me that stores would be so fraudulent, I never really thought about it as I've bought all my screens online for as long as I can remember... I have been into mainstream electrical retailers fairly often though, I just assumed the source material DVD/whatever was of low quality.

I have previously thought to myself "why are they not playing HD content on HD screens?" but never gave it much thought.

I used to work at the purple shirt store i never tried to oversell anything. I was not on sales. The amount of time I had to deal with customers because other employees had sold them overpriced tat that was useless to the customer was unbelievable.

I like to think i was one of the few staff their that actually gave a crap about the customer and knew what i was talking about, no i did not know everything but i never knowingly lied to a customer.

Only people I did'nt help was those that thought themselves better than i was.

Just like those £50 20m ethernet wires from ****** that are 'much' better than the £2 one I bought on ******* :p

Of course you knew EXACTLY what was in each TV without even looking.
Good trick that.

I would have suspected they had a different source, or they were playing funny buggers without looking, yes.

My comment was meant in jest. The thought of someone poking around the display with a mirror and torch amused me.

Calm down dear.

Tbqfh the fifty pound lead will end up with a clearer picture than the eight pound one will give you after twenty eight bottles of ale....
Less headache too.
Buy expensive leads, saves your liver.

I didn't say drink them all at once lol. I have literary 3 a week.

Back on topic. When I got the TV I have now (a 32" LG 1080p, very nice for my small-ish bedroom) the salesmen tried to get me to buy a Sony Bravia instead. Over and over he kept going on about its speakers, dunno why he was so obsessed with them. Thing is I told him every time I mentioned them that I have a A/V system with good speakers. Then he was sure that the LG TV wouldnt work well with my Sony A/V :|

Funnily enough I was in the Indian Restaurant electronics shop recently. I was looking for a cheap HDMI cable for my folks and their HD Virgin Media Box.

I was looking for something under £10; they were paying and it was convienient as the Mrs had dragged me in to buy some kitchen appliances. (Her annnual trip away from the kitchen, to buy upgrades for the kitchen).

Anyhoo, some sales lad comes over as I'm looking at the cables: £15 cheapest, £30+ for the others. After a brief discussion where he ascertained I needed it for a 40" Bravia, he recommended the most expensive one because it was "faster".

I left the shop shortly after, feeling enlightened with regards to technology, cableless.
Came home and bought one online from Amazon for £1.80.

Sales guys always seem to avoid me in these kind of stores. I don't know if I just put out some kind of BS detection aura that they have been trained to see or something. I want someone to try and con me :(

Worth getting a £5 one online tbh. I've had 3 £1 ones stop working with my PS3 (artefacts). Now I Buy 'Orb' 1.4 HDMI cables. They look better built tbh

The sets they want to sell at the time they make sure the picture on them look better than the ones they are not interested in selling.

I agree with you there. Like a lot of things you have to have limits and I bet all of us will raise an eyeborw if we saw a 2m HDMI cable for 0.64p or something.

To keep costs down somethings been short-changed!

Everyone knows hooking your new £100 gold plated mini HDMI cable up to your 24" monitor will make your k/d ratio go up ten-fold. What are you? Stoopid?

:D

You can use network cable to transmit HDMI signals and at about 20p a meter (if you buy a 305m reel from TLC) you can see that the cost of the cable really isn't anything crazy.

HDbaseT will show just how ridiculous these high priced cables are if it ever gets into any consumer products. Uncompressed HD video, sound, ethernet, power and control signals all down your standard cat5e cable.

Also, I've read a few horror stories about the super cheap HDMI cables falling apart when removing them from a HDMI port. Meaning there's a thin metal sleeve jammed in your expensive pc/tv/console that's damn hard to remove :o
