Disabling automatic updates (forced settings)

I've ran a registry file and it seems to have locked me out from editing my automatic updates settings, so they they're set to on and I can't turn them off.

Is there a way of fixing this?

Services, then disable Automatic updates. Restart.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
You could also use "XP Anti-Spy" then set to suggested, then apply.

Go to start> run> services.msc

Look down the list for automatic updates, then right click on it and select stop.

I've done that (and restarted) but if I go to my computer->right click properties and then to automatic updates, all the options are greyed out and it still shows 'automatic' as selected?

Does this matter?
