im at a loss , i want my cpu to run at max performance at all times and that is even when on battery.

i have set power scheme have the cpu to run at max performance on both plugged in and battery, but this does not work, when on battery, and viewing clocks in cpuz i see when under load , my multi drops from 10x to 6x resulting in severe cut in cpu speed.

disabling speed step in bios only makes cpu to run in its lowest state.

it seems when on battery, no matter what power settings for my cpu is set, it still under load throttles the cpu.

You'll find that, batterys dont give out enough juice to keep it running at maximum. So being plugged into the wall is your only option.

its a laptop and a great benefit to a laptop is portability, i don't like the idea of only being able to watch hd video or have it do cpu intensive tasks when on A.C as that limits its portability.

i want to be able to just bring the laptop around the house without dragging the power cable with me all the time.

what if i am somewhere where i cant plug it in, like on a plane or a train or a long car ride, i cant do anything very taxing as it wont be fast enough.

This is probably something you should have looked into before buying a laptop, they ARE slower its what's to be expected.

I was using a friends Dell laptop the other week just for browsing and the batter ran out after only a couple of hours of looking at webpages.

i wouldn't come here and make a post on why my laptop cant do stuff because of a certain type of cpu, be it a slow one. im here because it cant do stuff i want because of a flawed power scheme , which in turn is limiting the laptops full potential, a potential i looked into before buying it.

I'm lost though? With the power saving options on, it drops to 6x when you are not doing anything taxing and will ramp back up to 10x when it's needed.

Or is that the problem and it's not doing that?

The cpu should raise up to full multiplier when needed on battery or mains power.

Try running prime or Orthos on battery and see what happens, it should go to full speed.

If I read correctly, your's is dropping the multiplier when under load on battery? If that's the case then there's something wrong there. It should cut the multiplier when it's under no or partial load to save battery life.

I have an NC10 and have speedstep on all the time, never missed a beat for me!

Is the Laptop running Vista, if yes check the advance power options and check min / max cpu speed (can't remember the right term) it may be set low for when operating on battery.

yes, when on battery under load it cuts to 6x multi, this is my point.

In that case there's something else wrong, disabling speedstep may mask the problem, but for some reason it's cutting the multiplier when it should be boosting!

That's all the advice I've got I'm afraid, I'd recommend trying a forum specific to your laptop, maybe it's a common problem.
