Disaronno

Isn't it just amazing? Who else loves this drink.....
It's great as a cocktail ingredient but you've got to really like almonds to drink it by the glass, and it's far too sweet on its own for my palate.

It also loses points for having adverts that consistently annoy me. Disaronno and ice doesn't count as a cocktail!

I love almonds but for some reason I hate almond flavoured things, Disaronno included :(

I'm experimenting with Advocaat in cocktails atm

I don't mind it. I actually prefer the one from Bargain Booze as i find it a little less sweet. Couldn't have more than one glass of it though.

Had a superb drink of Amaretto at Hanging Ditch in Manchester. Was made with real Almonds :)

Vodka martinis? No way man, all about Gin.
Very dry, very cold gin martini with an olive, maybe a dash of the brine.
That's rather Seventies of you... :D

6 Vodka
1 Gin
½ Dry Vermouth
Shake over ice, serve with large thin slice of lemon peel.

I'm not big into gin anyway, but I had a 'proper' martini mixed for me the other month, where the chap used two measures of gin just to coat the glass, before chucking in the rest of the ingredients. He used Dan Ackroyd Crystal Head for the vodka and it was just... WOW!!!:cool::cool::cool:

Inverlochy Castle does a good one, too, if you're ever up there!
And just to bring it back on topic - Inverlochy also serve Disaronno, as the Mrs can testify!

Vodka is crap though, gin at least has some flavour. It makes a beautifully aromatic savoury beverage, vodka it's just a weak taste of vermouth with raw alcohol.

Can't stand vodka martinis, especially with a twist, get that lemon peel out of there.

CRAP vodka is crap.
You mess around with Stolychnaya, Wolfschmidt or (shudder) Smirnoff, then yes you will have a pointless experience.
Just like crap gin is crap. To me, Gordon's just tastes like diluted Flash kitchen cleaner without the overpowering Pine scent.

I didn't say a twist, either - I said lemon peel.
Get thee to a decent restaurant, with a proper sommelier and have THEM mix you a 'proper' vodka martini. It should have a friendly bite, biut certainly NOT be raw in any way!

I have a bottle for Christmas but I'm intending to have a few Saturday night :)

Not sure I like the thought of mixing it.

Mix it!
