Ordered the following part as a build for my Dad, really simple stuff plus I had a few bits and pieces he could use.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit -
Silverstone SST-PS03B Precision Midi Tower Case - Black
OcUK Battle 450W Dual Rail High Efficiency Modular Power Supply
ASRock N68C-S UCC GeForce 7025 (Socket AM3/AM2+) DDR2/DDR3 microATX Motherboard
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz
AMD Sempron 140 2.70GHz (Socket AM3) Processor -
OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Everything arrived fine and dandy.
Put it together the usual way, being a simple build it wasn't too bad.

Now the problems.

It switched on fine, PSU lit up, fans running, MB screen booted from screen to CD..started to load Windows..this failed a few times with error codes, swapped the ram sticks about (taking one out/ leaving one in etc), till on the second attempt it loaded windows fine, so..am I thinking right one of the OCZ sticks is faulty?.

Continuing as Windows installs and boots as normal, Working on installing the wireless link and the power cuts out, went to switch it back on and now nothing... completely dead and I have no clue what to try next, have swapped out the PSU for another one that I had spare, still dead, everything disconnected...just the CPU and MB cables in with the Power button cable in..nothing.

So am I to assume then the Motherboard is dead?

Please shed some light or opinion on this, Dad was looking forward to it and I talked about how easy it would be for simple system :(, the one bunch of stuff I get and their seems to be faults riddled through it.

Yes it sounds like the mobo is dead, if the power supply is ok then the mobo is the only other thing that can stop it from powering on. RMA time!

Make sure the motherboard is not making contact with the case, try running everything set up on top of the motherboard box to make sure. =]

I'd try different another PSU first, then try some RAM you know to be fault-free - if no joy, RMA time for your motherboard. :(

lol..love how people read half way.

Had the bought for PSU, and another older one, about 430w, more than enough, old Antec one that's been solid and work on another system I tested it with.

So we think dead mobo then?...damn that's a shame getting into the case/ CPU all in etc....bugger...gonna be the 12th in Belfast this week so no post as well!

Also to ask, is it possible then the mobo can work fine like that then just die a death?

Have sent through the details to RMA the problem parts, and got a note back saying they would mail the return details, that was quite a few hours ago. Does it take a while or so to come?

K guys I'm still more confused by this. Today I was making some upgrades of my own and tought I'd make a last effort to see what was wrong. Connected up my own working psu to the motherboard just the main 24pin sraight in and hit the power on the pus, the cow fan started up. Turned off and put the CPU power in, agin it came on. Tried to put the graphics card in with a stick of ram and now it won't show any kind of power coming thru, completely dead. Took everything back out till it was just the 24pin in the motherboard and it won't switch on, what the he'll is going on?

Are the motherboard stand-offs in securely? Make sure that the motherboard is definitely not touching the case. It sounds as if there is contact, but not constant, like it comes away and touches the case when you plug something in.

Try a seleton setup outside of the case (sit the MB on some cardboard) - this will route out any shorting and cable issues (if there are any).

Short the header pins with a screwdriver to start the PC.

Right it's up and working with the working stick of ram, so it most be sommin in the case. Should have explained I had it out of the case on paper on my bsek sprawled out trying different things.

Start adding components and memory etc (outside of the case) and if it doesn't buckle then re-install to the case.

If everything runs fine put it down to an erroneous short - if it doesn't then the case, mounts or the io panel are looking suspect.

Additional: Have you checked the IO plate for odd bits of metal protruding into places that it shouldn't?

Got it, one of the spacing bolts under the motherboard was sitting out of position, must have been shorting it out. Working now, just have to return the ram as one stick is deffo faulty. After the web note response they said they would send the email with the rma details but I have got nothing and that was about a day ago!
