Disc unreadable error

I have a second hand xbox well out of warranty and i've started getting disc unreadable errors quite regularly. The discs it happens on have developed some faint scratches (look like the drive has caused this as they are all arcs). Is there any way of fixing this myself?

Only If you fit a replacement drive. When mine has done it I've used the warranty or installed games to hard drive to prolong the life of the drive.
