Discovery channel 'illegal activity' programs

Yea, I agree the channel is a mess these days. Like most in the documentary section. None of it is really educational. I just like switching it on from time to time after work to watch Mythbusters, which is now fast becoming tiresome.

Hence I don't watch TV. I only watch films these days. Adverts drive me up the wall. Had I lived on my own right now, I wouldn't bother with a TV subscription.

That is what PVR is for. Set shows with potential on record, watch a few mins then delete if rubbish. If decent, series link it, then every advert can be skipped when you watch it at your own time :)

Honestly though, Discovery have gone down the drain. All these documentary caters either nut jobs (Aliens on History Channels) or Augmented Realities crappola. If it weren't for shows like Food Factory / How do They Do It and occasionally Tech Toys 360 along with some of those missed BBC Doc repeated on Eden, I rarely turn over to Documentary channels.

American Guns is **** :p I did watch Sons of Guns, for the guns though however some of their stuff really was ****.
I forgot I had "Sons of Guns" on series link.

Was off on annual leave last week and ended up watching every episode since May 2012 :D

They are Americans, right?!

The gold in the video looks like a painted chocolate bar.

the choclate bar wasn't the stupid thing.

buying a gold bar for 35k when it's supposed to be worth about 75k.
then getting robbed by the same people who sold it you 10 seconds down the road

it's gotta be fake other stupid crap thats just as bad which happens in almost every episode as well

I don't think any of the Gold Rush/Gold Divers is faked. There's lots of behind-the-scenes with Gold Rush and it's a proper mining operation all-round.

To be fair, Discovery isn't a patch on staged if you compare it to History Channel. Now there's a complete pile of ****e!!

Oh, and for the record, I saw the BBC filming James May's ManLab in Brussels and they totally fixed that. It was regarding the sign language, claiming it won against a phrase book, but they had James and the other guy at the same place at the same time! They all jumped out of a Range Rover!

Surely as a citizen it's their duty to inform the authorities of such things. Not make a show of it and turn a blind eye?

Why is it their duty?

It's not like they saw a murder, but then couldn't be bothered to inform the police. They actively searched out to record drug activities with the agreement that the perpetrators stayed anonymous, otherwise they wouldn't have agreed to do it.

The documentary channels has been in decline in my view since they started moving into more reality style programming. When it was just starting to be shown in small amounts it was ok but now some of the channels seem to have been taken over by it.

History is full of Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, and Aliens. Discovery hit a new low when someone decided that killing swamp rats would make a good half an hour television, and National Geographic seem to be following them into reality show oblivion. Although there are still a few gems to be found but these are getting increasingly few and far between.
