Discuss the new MSI GT 680 - OcUK Exclusive Laptop

another thing you could mention is students, young people or just people perhaps living in temporary rented accomodations which don't have the physical space to have a desktop + desk + PC monitor around, or if they move a lot due to work or financial conditions it's a hassle to carry around. A bin bag of clothes and laptop bag is easier :D ...

+1 even a busy house with kids running around, you may not have a permanent office for a desktop, or want cables running all over. A desktop replacement can be put away or quickly moved to a free room. The only real issue is the price for one that can game.

Well I travel with work, got my eye on these. Weight n power no worry as transported by car and powered by hotel. Main thing is a decent display to back up the performance.

I was *extremely* tempted by the GX660R but failed to raise the funds, this one though might just push me to sell my body for:

Verdict
It's not the most stylish or best-built gaming laptop we've seen, but when it comes to features and power for the money, few rivals can match the MSI GT680. Throw in an above-average screen, impressive speakers and excellent battery life, and this is one portable games machine that's easy to recommend.

Hmm only shame is screen res.... And no blueray. Should use atleast a 5870 or above. As in games will be slower than the 660 but I guess in everything will be slower. Think I'll get the 660r when the comes out as fOr 1k can get blueray and full hd screen

I can't wait for this laptop.

CPU i7 2.93 sandy bridge - big yes. I have a 940XM in my laptop, runs fairly hot now

Motherboard P67 - must have for the above cpu

RAM 6gb-8gb - either or. 6 will be enough

GFX GTX460M - Ok laptop gpu's are generally by rule a version behind the desktop. But i thik the GTX 400 range was retweaked based on new cores. But i want NVIDIA over ATI. Just a better option for me

Boot HD - Intel SSD
Storage 500gb - I like the default spec of dual 500gb drives in RAID + 0. To be honest i have a pair of 120gb SSD's ready to go in mine in raid 0 but again personal choice. Costs would be better going for the dual 500gb's

Screen 15.6" HD - I have a 15.6" true HD now, and i love it! Keeps laptop size down, easier to carry around, less bulk

Speakers dolby - GOOOOOOD the msi laptop speakers are very good

Bluray - No, no need. Keep cost down. DVD is fine.

Price - i was hoping for the £1000 mark, hense dual HDD's and dvd would be nicer options for me. Lower cost but higher gaming power from cpu and gfx.

Am already saving for this, hoping for Sub £1100 (not going to happen but i can dream)

What kind of monkeys design these things, and why are they not capable of designing a n easthetically pleasing shell? The new lid design is HORRIBLE, and whoever thought that would be better than a sleek and brushed dark metal effect needs to be shot.

Also yeah, a 5870 should have been used imo, or rather the 6x series... surely theyre not that far off?

I have put a good bit of time looking into laptops as my m1730 as died.

Anyway it seems as though the msi gt780 and gt680 are the way to go and are vastly cheaper than alienware.

What i would like to say is that they don't come with next day support like alienware and instead come with warranty from msi in middlesex so you have to send your computer off to them.

I'd be up for getting this msi gt680 laptop so far found it for £1250 del from USA.

However have you heard about the recall of certain barcodes?

Rather worrying if you ask me.

How does importing a laptop work anyway?

Do you just swap the power cord to the plug with a uk one and plug it in the power pack or do you need a usa to uk voltage converter?

I have a converter but just wondered.
