Disenchanted with Football

The problem football has it's has sold out. Money is what its all about now. I still think the Premiership will either start to loose its top players or it will go abroad, the latter more likely. One top club is going to go into serious admin and they are all going to fall like a pack of cards.

I havent felt the same about football for about 10 years kind of grew out of it. I still support a lower league club and go to matches, but tbh i'd rather be out running, biking, walking, climbing etc etc

Newcastle had the title entertainers late 90's and loved that. We never won anything but I loved the matches, so exciting

One of my favourite matches was the one at St James' Park, March 1996. A brilliant display of attacking football.

If only the Premiership was played like that now.

I'm not disenchanted with football, if you keep the faith you always get a game that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and pulls you back in.

At school I was mad into it, then I went to uni and got interested in other things, so from 1999-2001 I didn't really follow it much. This sounds crazy but for example I didn't even watch the cup final in 2001 even though we were playing.

Then later in 2001 I sat down and watched a certain game between Germany and England, at that point I was well, not exactly bored of football, but as I said it was very much take it or leave it. That game reinjuvinated me and I started following it seriously again, thankfully this coincided with 2002-2004 when Arsenal were at their absolute best.

That's the beauty of football, you can sit there watching some drivel, it's 0-0 at halftime and you wonder why you are bothering with this *&^%. About 18 months ago I paid £65 to watch us draw 0-0 with west ham and then a few weeks later another £50 or so to watch us draw 0-0 with Sunderland I think it was). But then a couple of months later I went down the pub for the game at Anfield where Arshavin scored 4 goals, that was just insane, one of the best games of football I've ever seen and I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO close to not have bothered going, that made me realise how many near misses you have, or how many misses, how many games you don't bother with and then realise you missed out. 2005 CL final was another one, I'd just started seeing this girl (now my wife), figured it would be a boring match, but took a punt and it paid off, absolute classic.

I also feel disenchanted with football, but I don't know how long into the prem season it will last. I think that shows that I'm fed up with international England games as opposed to football entirely.

As to American sports...they really are total log.

Yeah. I'm a little disenchanted. I thought the World Cup was quite poor and for me it devalued football's worth. When I think about Hollands tactics in the final, the inconsistent refereeing, the shirt-pulling, diving/simulation. goals that never were etc etc I've come to the conclusion that soccer must be the most cheat dependent game out there.

The most enjoyable game for me in the World Cup was Japan defeating Denmark.

I try to watch scottish football but it's painful to watch, only half interesting matches are the old firm games. As far as England league goes... Well nothing really excites me any more. Maybe a man city game but it's always the same. I like to see someone rock the boat like wigan.

About 11-12 years ago i lost the vibe with forest, going down to the ground was a bane due to the way we were being run down by the owners at the time, stoped going, found something else.

Everything that id lost with football i found at the speedway track, good honest family sport, great traditional history, fair game based on ability. Nothing in the sport is about greed, most of the guys that do it are in it because it's their joy and pastime, the owners barely break even, realy is a pleasing night out in the summer months... i still go today despite returning to the football.

One of the things realy, you'll nearly allways become disenchanted with something you do and love somewhere down the line, it's just finding the joy again, nights out at the speedway track bought it back for me.
