My dishwasher stopped working the other week. I slapped her around for a bit, but it's been no help.

Jokes aside, I googled the different lights and noises it made, and it seems to point at the logic board. I called one local company who said 'it's be cheaper to buy a second hand one'. Thinking that he may be having me on, and finding a lack of parts for my particular model (Hotpoint SDW60), does he actually have a point? As in, I may as well just replace the whole thing?

ive replaced 15 quid fill valves and pumps before but never electrical stuff.

Its not something you can easily diagnose but if you are confident it is that part at fault id go with the above.

Its a chunk of cash to waste though if its wrong... might be easier to just call a pro out for a free quote first then have a think about it.

How old is it and what are the symptoms?

Around 3 years old, symptoms are that it doesn't complete a wash cycle at first. It crashes out around a minute in with some long beeps. If I shut the unit off and hold reset when turning it on, the prewash and drying lights flash. After holding reset, and then restarting the unit, or trying to select a wash cycle, it just sits with the pump on and won't allow me to do anything else. If I unplug it for 30 minutes or so, it goes back to square 1, that is it starts a cycle then crashes out a minute in.

I've checked the drainage, which works, there is water going to the unit, and there doesn't appear to be anything else wrong.

So after messing about with it for a day or so, my GF goes in, presses a few buttons and it's now going through the whole cycle. Typical!

Depends on the price of the logic board. Most instances when a logic board fails, you can see damage to the PCB (Although this isn't always the case).

So it seemed to sort itself now, but another thing is now broken. Where the top shelf meets the back for the water supply, the seal is all knackered. In addition to this, it's generally not washing properly, probably as it's old, clogged up etc.

Should I just go out and get another one/ I know Miele are the ones to go for but I've seen some good deals on Bosch dishwashers, worth a punt?

This is the part I need. It sits at the top where the water comes up to the shelf. The seal is split so the top shelf cleaning is useless. Persevere with this or get another? Seen a nice Bosch for cheap local to me.

You seem to be having lots of problems with the one you have, you could throw money at it and then then it dies next week.

You can buy a Bosch/Neff/Siemens and get 2 years warranty.

Then I'd just buy another second hand? My current Hotpoint cost £45 around 30 months go and only started going wrong around 3 months ago or so. I think it's safe to say that I've had my monies worth. A new Bosch is well in excess of £350 from a quick search.
