If you do go for a replacement I'd recommend either going high-end (Meille) or cheap rubbish that you can hoy once it goes wrong after the guarantee has run out.

I can confirm as a Watfordinian the water is very hard. Have to descale the kettle every month and use filter water for drinking/tea.

I presume it's hard water as my kettle is showing signs of it. I've bought the Bosch for £80, just installed it and it's running like a dream. I'll put the old one on Gumtree for £50, hopefully get my money back for it.
