Sorry for a completely random topic but I need some advice guys!

My partner and myself have just bought a house and we're looking to move in soon. The kitchen in our house has a 600mm deep work surface which has caused me a little concern regarding fitting in a dish washer.

Originally we were after a 600mm deep Bosch unit but I don't think it would fit flush with the work surface as I'm guessing the 600mm depth does not include an allowance for the waster and waste pipes and unfortunately we cannot have the unit over hanging as it will prevent the adjacent drawers from opening (dish washer is in corner).

Can anybody shed any light on what options I have available? I have found a 580mm deep Kenwood dish washer which I'm hoping might fit if I cant get the Bosch?

Cheers, Jon

Im thinking that they will be 60cm deep (as thats a standard) but what you will find is that there is probably a lip at the top/back of the unit to stop you from pushing the thing back to far crushing the inlet and outlets.

This is only a guess though as washing machines have the same thing.

Your best bet is to go to the shops and find the unit and check it physically.

Mine is shaped like this:

!
! dishwasher back
!
!
---!
pipe here: -> !

So the is a recess where the pipes go at the bottom so they dont stick out the back.

I couldn't be bothered to paintbrush it, lol

edit.

that pic didnt work, see here http://bradaptation.com/wp-content/InstallingDishwasher.jpg

there is a lip at the bottom which faces the wall. No idea whether this is the same for all.

This is exactly what I thought, a lip at the back to protect the pipes etc but I was a bit worried when my dad said his Bosch didn't. I think your both right, need to go to a show room to be sure

Thanks guys!

If you're concerned I'd suggest putting her on the Atkins diet, but a good shove should work in any case. :p

Most dishwashers and appliences built to go under a 600mm worktop are made so that any pipes etc fit inside the 600mm.

From memory my dishwasher has the pipe under the top lip of the unit, with the top lip being about 580mm front to back (so it even has a bit of extra clearance).

If you can find it online the dishwashers manual should tell you the dimensions, including with standard plumbing connections fitted.

You will find that it will be designed with an overhang on the rear to accommodate piping, however it will be very tight with a 600mm worktop if the outlets behind it protrude at all IME.

I know it doesnt help you but for this very reason i built my kitchen with a 720mm worktop where appliances were due to be situated - the extra depth doesnt notice but the appliances slide right underneath.
