i'm wanting to take an image of my hard disk (os and files) so I can swap the hard disk and drop everything on the new one without reinstalling windows etc.

Whats the best software to do is ?

in the past i've used norton ghost but that was a long time back

cheers

Clonezilla is pretty good and free but nowhere near as friendly as Acronis or Ghost. If you don't mind paying I'd go with one of the Acronis products.

thanks for the suggestion guys, bit too late though :( the drive just died a clicking death. managed to backup most things but it looks like my evenings going consist of an xp install now.

What kind of discs you using? Blu-ray? Whatever the case, you could try something like magic ISO and then IMG BURN.

Would've probably got corrupted sectors on the image, if the drive was failing.

Acronis, though!
