Disk Partition - unallocated space question ?

I've not used Windows 7 before and installed it onto the hdd and I appear to have created a partition ( around 128 Gb) with around 0.8 of a Tb unallocated. Everything is working fine and all my drives etc are up and running, all that is apart from the unallocated hdd space!

I've entered Administrative Tools and "Computer Management" and then Disk management where it shows the unallocated partition.

Questions: Do I right click it and create a "Simple Volume" and follow the wizard ?
Also, do I format the the drive with the NTFS file system after allocating a drive letter?

Any help appreciated.

How many partitions do you want on that drive?
(You can "extend" your existing partition into the unallocated space if you just wanted one.)

you need to format the 800gb you have left by creating a simple volume like you said.... then it will appear for you to use

Many thanks for the reply.

I'll be happy with just the two partitions for the time being. One for Windows and main progs that I use.
The other for data which will also be backed up on another 1Tb mirror drive in case one fails.
I just need to know if I create a "Simple Volume" with file system NTFS. Do I ask Windows to format the unallocated space when it creates it?

It will automatically format it when it creates the space, so once it's done it will be ready for you to use.
