Hi,i am thinking of going to disney this year and with so many travel companies out there i am not sure who to go with.I have 2 girls and they would like a barbie style hotel or something like that.So anybody here know of any good deals. We will go for 2 weeks and need the passes to the resort.

Moviestar hotel is good for kids and reasonably priced hotels as well, all the Disney princesses walk around the hotel, and the rooms are decorated with Disney characters.

You are fairly well situated in the Disney park,i get all my tickets before i go from Keith Prowse ..

Hi Andy,

I'm taking the family to Florida in august and we ended up using a company called Charter travel after it being recommended by my mate. http://www.chartertravel.co.uk/

So with flights and car hire we save about £500 compared to if we did the same deal through the Virgin website. :)

As for park tickets there are plenty of on-line companys offering discount, but we ended up buying direct of the Disney website for peace of mind, and for the fact they where the same price.

I'm not sure about a barbie style hotel. :) We haired a villa for 2 weeks as staying on the Disney resort would easily bump the holiday price up by at least an extra 2k!

I am not sure about any barbie themed hotels in Orlando, what about staying in the Disney All-Star Movies Resort, it has Pixar's Toy Story, Fantasia, The Love Bug, The Mighty Ducks and One Hundred and One Dalmatians as the themed buildings.

I stayed in the Pop century resort when I went in 2008 when I was about 19 and it was less in your face. It still had huge statues of the characters outside the buildings, but inside your room was just plain. The best thing about staying in a Disney hotel is that you catch free buses to every park. If you choose to stay on international drive then you have to pay for a taxi everywhere.

Not entirely true.

IF you drive and park at any of the resorts you can use the Disney transport there, to go to any of the other parks.:)

don't stay in a hotel. get a villa, and find one with kids/barbie/whatever character style room, trust me by the end of the holiday they'll want one with mickey mouse over barbie, and they'll forget anyway when they've got a villa which works out cheaper and you get your own pool. never again will i stay in a hotel in florida simply because the villa experience is a million times better

^^ I agree.

We rented a villa about 30 minutes from the parks and had a fantastic time. They almost all have pools and are of a really high standard, whilst be greatly cheaper than the hotels.

and cheaper on food as you can go to walmart buy general food/snack stuff and then have days where you stay in your pool and have sandwiches, go shopping so take some cold cans with you etc. you'll also eat more healthy as it's harder to find light options if at a hotel where you eat thei buffet breakfast, eat big heavy burgers in the parks, then in the evening go out for more food.

I'd look into organising it all yourself - sort your own flights, sort your own hotel/villa and buy your park tickets online from an agent at a lower price. That way you get to pick and chose exactly what you want, you dont need to pay the travel agents profit margin and best of all you get to avoid charter flights. Win all round.

Hotel accomodation in the Orlando area is very cheap - there is so much of it that supply often outstrips demand. You can stay at quite decent places for under £40 a night for a room.

I always hire a Villa and car. It works out a lot cheaper and buy your tickets from k-mart.

Mind you I have heard it is cheaper getting the tickets before you go. Somebody will know better with tickets.

the only thing putting me off the villa idea is whats the crime like outside the disney resort. Are they in a safe place.I have looked at ba and a few more sites to stop in hotels.I think the cheapest is £3,000 and go upto £6,000.Thats with no passes and self catering is the cheapest quote.

How is it controversial ?

You will always get people who question the ethics Disney use - but they are usually the same people who either

1.) Don't have young children.....
2.) Have never been to any Disney parks....
3.) Don't understand the actual work / ethos / professionalism of the outfit itself.

Generally - they are the same sort of people that will find fault with anything - no matter how decent it is.

I would like to think I am a relatively intelligent enough person - and I have yet to find anything that compares ( in conveying happiness ) to children.

Not entirely true.

You cant park at any of the Disney hotels now unless you have a dining reservation and you are limited to 3 hours I believe. Of course if you are a hotel guest then you get a pass to display on your car but you can still only park at your own hotel.

You could park at Downtown Disney or one of the water parks though and jump on the Disney transport but in all honesty it pretty slow as it stops at so many places and everything is so spread out.

crime? christ never even considered it. surely you're going to go outside of disney for shopping and eating so it's no different. last time i was there i set of the burglar alam for the villa as i put the previous house code in, literally within 2 minutes a cop was at the door.

I've never stayed any where that felt dodgy. it's a key tourist area which i'd say they've done a good job of making you feel safe. I may be wrong with the very very far outskirts that are no longer the touristy areas, but i'd say you have to go far to find somewhere you didn't feel safe in, in my opinion. I may be naive though and lucky but i do also know a lot of other people who've been any no one ever had any thoughts on safety.

Going to Florida next month , we are staying at the Hardrock Hotel .
Been to Florida 3 times and the kids love it ( and me ) , did the villa route once but the missus complained it was like being at home with her still doing all the housework.
Stayed at Disneyland resort and that was not as expensive as i thought it would be with 2 kids , when we went last September bought flights online and got car rental when we landed and stayed all over Florida , Jackonsonville,Miami,Tampa and Naples worked out around $100 a night for the 4 of us with breakfast.
For the passes just get some multi passes over here only a bit cheaper over there , you can buy unused ones online from auction site if you want to save a bomb , 2 years ago got 4 unused 14 day disney passes for £200
