display driver stopped responding and has recovered

how you getting on with this mate...any bsod?

No bsods dude, but I did just randomly crash, I opened 2 eve clients again and it didnt bsod, just went black and restarted the pc. But aside from that the pc is running stable. Not sure why it reset earlier this morning though, ill see if it does it again.

But the drivers were certainly the main issue!

My advise would first be to un-install all the drivers for your Graphics card then re-boot
and install them all over again making sure you get them from the proper web-site
E.G. if its an XFX card go to the XFX site to download the drivers.

Once you have done that then follow these instuctions and run a file scan on the system
files and make sure that they are all in tact if there is some damaged it will fix the files
for you, follow these instructions.

Click Start > Run > Type cmd > Type sfc /scannow

This will run a scan on all of the system files and make sure they are all as they are
suppost to be.

Ok I thought everything was fine then it decided to give me the display error again. And decided on rebooting, after which decided to stop my wireless card working....so typing this from my phone

Thanks, I tried the scan and it said I have corrupt files and it couldn't fix them.

So I removed a stick of RAM, and it wouldn't get past the boot screen during post. Put it in slot 1, same thing couldn't post. Swapped sticks and it now posts. so it appears I have a second set of RAM with a dodgy stick.....

It also is fine attempting to reinstall Windows on this single stick. So it appears a reinstall should sort the corrupt files And another memory rma and buy something else. Hopefully we have gotten to the bottom of this!

Cheers
Mike

I get this as well with an ATI card, screen goes black then comes back on after a second with an error message.

It's a driver issue, last time i checked though (a while ago admittedly) there were no updates.

I imagine there are by now

My brother just had a similar problem with his 6950. Turned out it was a driver conflict.

I recommend a full uninstall of of all graphics drivers and catalyst software (make sure you only have windows vga driver and that's it - so check device manager, program file etc.) and then install from scratch.

It's ok, reinstalled windows with the working stick of ram and everything is groovy.

So ill have to order a 3rd set of ram in a sec, and then phone ocuk on Tuesday to arrange an rma and refund for the second set of ram as well as the faulty first. Pain in the butt, but hopefully i'll have it running perfectly by wednesday

edit: so can anyone reccomend some decent ram, with potential to overclock later if need be? 4GB is fine

Does the corsair xms clock well?

hi mate...sucks your still having issues :(
try other drivers eg 11.3 or 11.2.....also buy corsair ram ;) there is a reason why ocz have stopped making it and corsair make mighty fine ram :)

edit: im not bashing ocz i have owned both there ram and ssd's but for ram corsair rain supreme.....just my opinion

I would also reccomend this RAM. Kingston are about a fiver cheaper and also have a good RMA service and are of course well known for memory. However, I still like Corsair. Having owned both brands, I'd buy Corsair personally.

The reason I wasn't jumping on the driver problem band wagon was with the explanation of other strange symptons occuring. It didn't strike me as a sole graphics problems. You seem to be on the right track now.

P.S. Overclocking that RAM will give very little to zero performance increase in real world scenarios, games etc etc. 1600Mhz is plenty.

Got ya cheers, back in the day the multipliers were locked, you could only reduce them, you couldn't increase them unless you had a unlocked chip, like the mobile 2500+ socket A for example.

So I guess I'm in the habit of clocking by increasing the memory and fsb to overclock 1:1.

With the 955 and unlocked multi I guess it wont make too much difference. I'll order some ram today or tomorrow

Cheers!

edit: just ordered the mem you suggested

How come you can't reinstall Windows without BSOD? You must have installed it the first time?

It was installed with a single working stick of ram last time, then i was running both sticks of the new memory I bought to replace it so was unstable.

But I am replacing the second set as well now with some corsair,so it willall be fine

Installed the corsair, set to 800mhz and set the timings, running perfect so far, will let you know if I get any crashes or unusual behaviour.

Bottom line, the Asus M4A78LT-M 760G does not like the ocz memory, or the ocz memory has a high fubar rate, im guessing its the former.

I've never liked OCZ RAM. It does have a high failure rate from what I've read on various sites etc. I suppose there's a reason that they don't make it anymore. Plus it's ugly :)

Glad it's working now.

This all seems very similar to the problems I had.

My problem was both GFX (which was tested in 3 systems and found to be completely knackered) and the mobo, which made troubleshooting a nightmare. :( I was convinced it was the ram too... it wasn't.

I'd try your mobo's onboard GFX to see if the driver restart errors are still taking place.

No need, its all sorted, it was a combination of knackard/incompatible memory and poor ati drivers

I had the exact same error when overclocking my 6950's if I pushed them too much.

Pretty sure this error message is GPU related only. I can only think it's driver related or perhaps the card has developed a fault.

Edit: Wrote this before the above message, glad it's sorted.
