Display Driver Stopped Responding in GRID

Hi

Sorry I haven't looked at this thread for a while, I've been e-mailing EVGA about the problems I was having and running various tests that they recommended. Long and short of it is that I've just RMA'd it so they can test it.

I got over the OpenAL problem with a fix I found online to do with the 32bit and 64bit versions, but the card recovery problem has persisted.

Only problem now is that I'm not going to be able to play FarCry2 when it comes out :(

Cheers

Hope your replacement works fine.

I find with GRID that although every other game/benchmark is fine with my 4870 card overclocked at 839/1090 I get this problem and I have to run GRID with stock clocks to make it go away.

Yeah, it seems to be something odd about the coding in Grid. My card isn't overclocked at all at the moment, so I suggested to them that it should be able to play the game at standard settings.... hopefully I'll get a nice shiny replacement in time for FarCry2!!

I have similar problems :(

Grid is always crashing for me! No idea why! Sometimes does it after a lap or2, sometimes after 2 whole races! And then sometimes when the replay is playin!!

This is on a 8800gt... but used to do it on my 3870 too! Just a buggy game perhaps?

Fair point, I don't want to be sending my card off to Germany for a week minimum just to find out it's a problem with the game, and then I get my old card back....

I tried Grid again yesterday, turned on the PC, started the game immediately and it crashed about 10 seconds into the first race. It was one of the Rome tracks which seem pretty gfx intensive, but it rules out overheating.

Any thoughts anyone - the card is packed up but I missed the carrier today.

It might be a driver/windows/game problem. However, there is a good chance that they will send you a G92 8800GT/GTS or even 9800GTX back so if they have given u an RMA number I would be tempted to send it back for a repalcement anyway.

Don't know why, but my GRID lock-up issues were resolved by creating a new user account on the machine. Has been flawless ever since :) (GPU is 3870 however).

Here's hoping ;);)

I did try loads of fixes, including a few recommended by EVGA, so they must think it's card related if they gave me an RMA number.

New user account - there's one I didn't try, but I don't have separate user accounts on my pc, so it shouldn't be a problem. Should it?

A week without gaming? I might have to turn my 360 on..... maybe I should just get Grid for that.....

90% of people posting about having the display driver not responding on forums, etc. are either using Asus P5 series boards or Asus nForce boards... look at just how many people in this thread alone saying they have the problem are using P5 boards...

Also an nVidia engineer posted about 6 months ago how there was a problem with these boards and that reducing the memory speeds to 667MHz or less often solved it - but he got rubbished by a load of people saying it was an nVidia problem...

I had the same issues myself with the Asus P5N32-E SLI and striker extreme - the exact same hardware (GPU, CPU, etc.) when moved to a gigabyte board did not produce the same error.

Oh I hope not, can't be bothered with a whole mobo change again....

And, thinking about it, I hope the EVGA engineers aren't reading this thread!!

I nearly went for the Gigabyte too :(

if you can reliably reproduce the problem, as your running at 3gig just set the memory to 1:1 with the FSB and see if it goes away. IIRC the E4300 runs a 9 multi.

people should also know that the 1.2 nocd crack on some sites is actually faulty and will cause crashes.

Pretty sure that's what I was running, but I can't check as I have no gfx card!

I'll have a look for the 1.2 nocd crack, just out of interest.

Cheers

Hi

I've been having some weird problems since installing my free copy of Grid (thanks OCUK :))

It plays perfectly well for about 20 minutes, maybe more then quickly locks up and stops responding... the Vista (64bit) message tells me that Grid.exe has stopped working, gives me some exception codes etc then goes back to the desktop (it gives me the option to 'search for a solution online' but I close the prog instead).

I then get a tray message that says ' Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered'.

I found a thread suggesting it was the drivers so I upgraded to 178.15 but it happened again. I also tried playing with the cover off the case (Lian Li with 3 fans running at 100%) but it still happens.

So, is my gfx card borked, or is the display res hurting it (1680 x 1050 Samsung 22") or.... what else?

Thanks for any help.

did that to me, and it was the card overheating and on the way out.

new 4850 was fitted with an Accelero and a 120mm Blue LED silent coolermaster fan, now runs at about 52,55,57 and GRID has never borked once....

:)

im using a p5k and a 4870, it runs fine, the 1.2cd crack is dodgy though like someone says. Only game i play where i use the cd.

Yeah, overheating seems to be the likely candidate, even with all the case fans on 100%.
Only other thing was the voltage on the +12v rail, which was about 0.1v below what was required, which is odd for a Corsair.
I'd love a 4850, but as EVGA don't make them I doubt they'll make me that offer....
Cheers

I would still try creating a new account and running grid in that. Only takes a couple minutes and you won't lose anything just giving it a try :)
