Display driver stopped responding

Hiya,
(i running older 8800gts 640meg ram)

Ok, I had just managed a long winded fix, Heard about asus accidently uploading the drivers for the new nvidia cards coming out

Grabbed them from vaguetech, I got the modded inf's from laptop2go

Swapped inf's over, and bobs your uncle ;)

Now i can run the only game i've ever had issues with in vista x64 with explosions from torpedos n guns etc not giving me the nvlddmkm.sys message or a complete CTD

Hope that helps

Ciao

Def

ps: not tried cod4/crysis etc, just want a month or 2 at sea with my fav sub sim, if any probs with other games i can install last driver i used for those

Ciao

I've been reading around the subject and it seems that few people suggest uninstalling ATI Catalyst Control Center, but obviously just keeping the driver. Going to give this a try.

well i've give it a bash. i'll post back later with how i get on. :)

edit; nearly an hour and no problems. before it was happening within minutes with dual screens enabled....i won't read too much into that just yet though.. :p

bummer. but i'm still going strong. like yourself, it was happening when i was doing nothing so i'm just using my pc as normal. i've got a couple of apps running on my 2nd screen (vmware) and it's been all good so far. beforehand, i certainly never went 4 hours without a crash like i have done now.......

Im going to test each ram stick individually and then check my PSU out, i'm wondering whether the rails are a bit low, they look fine (if a little low) in the bios, but speedfan says my 12v is 11.25v which i believe is too low.

you can't trust software voltage readings. besides, they're within tolerances anyway i think.

i left my pc on all night and no problem so i think it's case closed for me. :p

Ahh see, mine isnt a regular problem. It only happens every now and then, it can go a while without happening so keep your eye on it!

hehe, it's come back... i'm unhooking my 2nd screen. even one crash every 2 days is too much for me. i hate instability. most of the time i'm not doing anything important but i'd be royally ******** off it crashes while i'm working on something.

Still suffering from this, upped the voltages on my ram and NB to come in line with ram specs and requirements for all 4 slots being populated. Also memtested my ram with no errors.

I am now trying disabling the vista aero theme and reverting to vista basic, I didnt realise that the aero theme is supposedly accelerated, so constantly putting some load on the graphics.

Next thing is RMAing my psu, 3.3v rail seems to be at 3.15v, which is within ATX specs but pretty low and some say this could cause problems/errors/damage.

i thought the gpu runs off the 12v line. besides, as i mentioned earlier, you can't rely on software readings (or do you have a multimeter?). besides, IIRC you have an hx 620w. i very much doubt that will be a problem.

Yeah HX620, im willing to try anything, plus Im a bit uneasy about the lines being that low...

However... without wanting to jump the gun (fingers crossed) disabling aero so far seems to have done the trick, 17 hours uptime with no sign of the problem. I actually prefer the basic theme and dont use the aero program switch anyway. Hopefully this is the end of my woes! If not, I might give up altogether!

kept gettng this and found out it was the Asus probe bug (ASUS ACPI cneter). Not had a single BSOD since i removed the process (Vista 64).

Well, 24 hours solid and i havent had the problem reoccur, I have recently removed AI Suite, but the main thing is reverting to the vista basic scheme (i.e. turning off aero).

I may do some testing with the aero scheme, but i think i prefer it without anyway!

Interestingly, after uninstalling AI Suite i lost the system temperature probe and it left aacenter.exe running, as soon as i killed aacenter, the system probe reappeared..... very odd.
