my GTX460 just starting doing this. It would do it maybe once every couple of months, but since this morning, its doing it every few mins. Now I've reinstalled the latest nvidia drivers, and it hasn't happened since, but should I be worried? Could it be a sign that my graphics card is dying? should I consider an RMA to gigabyte?

Could be to do with the OC. Sounds like it could be overheating. Try to blast the dust out of it maybe? Check temps, etc.

I believe so. Sounds maybe a bit too high though, assuming they're idle temps. Do the drivers stop responding randomly? Or when you are gaming/running 3D apps?

Nah, don't think 50C alone would cause them to stop responding. Could have been the drivers though. If it carries on, try removing the OC and see if it still does it. Other than that, I don't think I (personally) can help you. Somebody more experienced should pop in here soon though.

"display driver stopped responding" tends to happen when overclock of the graphic card is unstable, so I doubt it is hardware failing. I would think it is most likely that the factory overclock is not stable in certain games.
For example, my 5850 overclocked to 925MHz is completely stable in all games I play...except for Crysis, which I have to drop the overclock to lower than 900MHz.

But it doesn't happen anymore now that you have changed driver right? So it would point to being a driver issue...and it has now be solved I guess?
I had the exact same problem with my 460 GTX although only with the latest drivers (8.17.12.8026) on Win 7 x64. It also doesn't matter whether it is overclocked or not and it wasn't picky when it did it either.
It will always recover but my card would do it once a day without fail. Once it got it out of the way though it ran perfectly fine for however long the system was on for which is different to your experience.
I've gone back to the previous drivers and haven't had any problems since so perhaps try that?

on 285.27s and i get it every so often
just and update. formatted a few days ago, and the issue is still there, it happens a few times a day now. normally once when i first switch my computer on in the morning, then maybe 1 or 2 times more during the rest of the day. Either its an issue with the driver, or my card is dying?
