Hi,

I have just built my first PC and it works fine with the monitor plugged into the motherboard with the VGA and no graphics card. If I then put the graphics card in and try to link my monitor through it's hdmi and the graphics card hdmi, I keep getting an error saying "cable not connected" and just a black screen.

I am not sure what to do next?

Cheers

Dave

Have you given the 7850 its 6pin PCI-E power cable from the PSU?

Is the card in the top 16X slot?

Yeah the graphics card has its 6 pin connector. Is that the only one necessary - I can't see anymore but will just make sure!

I unfortunately don't have a DVI cable and there is no VGA slot on the card :(

Could it be driver related?

Thanks

Maybe try a BIOS update (see if theres anything newer at the MSI website as Gigabyte Z77-D3H boards have more often than not needed this done)

I have no OS installed on it at the moment, should I put one on there without the graphics card present and just use the mobo vga and then try to sort it from there?

Dave

It could be a faulty graphics card, i doubt it wold be driver related as you haven't even booted into windows yet. 2 things to check 1) when the pc is on do the fans on the card spin up and 2) are you sure the hdmi cable works. could also be a faulty hdmi port in the monitor

Right I have fixed it - was me being an idiot. I just had to change the monitors display over to HDMI -.-' so simple!

Thanks for all the help though :)
