I spoke too soon about it all working fine, I enabled enhanced visual effects on mint 7 and now when it loads up I get a display, but any new window I bring up results in a black/blank space.
It seems to me that the graphics card I have can run enhance effects, is there a way of turning this off in ubuntu? or resetting the display settings.
