Hey guys, my Girlfriend's PC has gone mad and I'm not quite sure what's the problem with it. I'll show you a few pictures.

Usually it happens after about an hour so I'm thinking it may be an overheating issue, but then sometimes it will appear like this from the second the machine boots up. I don't think it's a virus as I've tried everything to purge the machine, ran virus scans in safemode with the internet pulled out etc. And it's not the monitor as I've switched it, same thing. I don't think it's the graphic's drivers as it's also in BIOS and Safe Mode.

Any ideas?

P.S sorry if this is the wrong thread area

Yeah i tend to agree with whats been said above ... Your Graphics card is crapping out ... Sounds like you have tried to eliminate other potential problem areas ... Maybe try another card in her machine and at least give your GF's card a good clean before you go all out and spend some hard earned cash mate.

Could be the graphics card dying... :(

But first, have you tried a different monitor cable?

Oh, and the machine also freezes. So it's not the cable :(

Graphics card on its way out me thinks. Can you post the specs?

It's an Nvidia 8800 GTS, which she bought about a year ago.

If you can try to run the system with the on board graphic's

I wouldn't know how to do that, but it sounds like an idea worth testing.

clean the fan on the card and the heatsink of dust. Install msi afterburner and force the fan at 80%

Ah, Kmodo, just noticed it was you who replied just then. Anyway bro, I've taken the side off and installed MSI Afterburner.
My only query though is why has it only just started happening in the winter of all time?!

Take the card out and plug the video cable into the motherboard.

you may also need to change the settings in the bios depening on your motherboard and take the GPU out.

If the card is running hot give it a good clean, tho you may have already damaged it pass the point of no return. Hopefully not tho :)

Yeah i have an old 8800GT and they can run real hot if they are not kept clean mine got to 80 odd degrees lol They are resiliant little cards though ... Mine crapped out, i stripped it baked it in the oven cleaned it new thermal paste and bob's ya uncle shes worked again lol. I would NOT do that if you dont know how to though lol

Just a quick one to say that we've now switched to onboard graphics and it's now working absolutely fine. So the problem was infact an overheating GPU.

Thanks for all the helpful and prompt replies! :p
