display not working?

Ok my dads pc is quite old, this morning it decided it wouldnt display anything on the monitor. The monitor itself is working fine, i have tested it with my laptop as a 2nd display.

Any ideas what may be causing it or ideas to test for what the problem is? My initial thought was the graphics card, but could it also be the psu? It boots up fine and i can tell it gets through the bios because it doesnt turn off automatically when you press the power button.

Have you tried reseating the gfx card?

Has the gfx card got more than one output on the back you could try the other one if it has two.

Nah its only got one vga output. Will give the reseating a shot, it might have also lost the power. i opened it up the other day and it was filthy, like ridiculousy slow. Could cleaning it help?

It could as the fans maybe clogged up with dust and things are shutting down or have died due to high tempratures.

If the gfx has it's own power supply pull the connection out completely and refit - along with the reseating.

Cheers guys, had a look, and reseated the gfx card, that did the trick

Didnt have its own power supply. I will tell him to clean it though! lol.
