Display Port vs DVI

Hi guys,

I have a EVGA 3gb GTX 660ti ftw+ edition graphics card and was thinking of switching to display port.

After reading up about DP, i was told there's no point using it if it has the same bit rate as my dvi port. Does anyone know what it is on my GPU and whether it is worth changing to DP.

I have tried them both and there is absolutely no visual difference to using DisplayPort when compared to Dual-Link DVI. DisplayPort does carry audio which is one benefit over DVI but until you start getting into 4K resolutions at high refresh rates, there isn't much point to use DisplayPort.

When I got my U2412M, it came with a DVI cable, but my adventurous side compelled me to buy a DisplayPort cable just because. I have two monitors (one via HDMI, one via DP) and whenever I only used the HDMI monitor, the DisplayPort one would go to sleep and fail to wake up. I thought it was the cable so I bought another more expensive £25 one with the DisplayPort logos. Same problem. Eventually, I just returned both of the cables and settled on DVI. To save yourself some hassle, just Google DisplayPort Sleep Problems; it should be enough to deter you from using it.

It won't make any difference to the monitor you're currently using, the idea of Displayport is that they have higher bandwidth available, meaning you can use monitors that exceed the bandwidth that current DVI can provide, for example 4K.

Stick with the dldvi it's the same for now.

I tried both and get errors saying the monitor isn't running at it's maximum refresh rate when using DP. Simple fix was to use DLDVI. I could see no difference in image quality.

I use DP on my 2713 it is exactly the same as Dvi picture wise. No problems with sleep or not displaying properly.

No picture quality difference. Just a high bandwidth which can handle larger resolutions.
I tend to stick with DVI
