First question, what is the cheapest Nvidia card I can buy for simply giving me a Display Port connection?

Second question, I currently have a GTX260-216 which is still serving me very well. Can I run this in my rig for when I wish to use games, with the cheaper Display port card sending the signal to my monitor when not?

Third question, did someone happen to release a GTX260-216 with a Display port to make my life a lot easier?

Please no questions why I've stipulated Nvidia only, just suggestions please :) Thankyou.
 
1)Usually Nvidia "Geforce" consumer graphics cards don't support Displqay port. Some of the Nvidia "Quadro" series of professional cards do support display port. However, unless you REALLY need the specific features of the Quadro cards and displayport then I would avoid these - they are very expensive for the performance you get. Here is a nice list of the Quadro cards - just filter for "displayport" and you will find the cards. Then google the ones you like the look of - OCUK don't stock quadro cards. The FX 380 LP and FX 580 fit the spec.

I just found a reasonably cheap 9500GT card with DP, just google "Lenovo 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT DisplayPort".
An even cheaper and less powerful card from Zotac is called the "ZOTAC GeForce 9400 GT DP".


2) What is the monitor/monitors you are using? 2 cards will run in the same rig perfectly happily - but I don't fully understand the configuration you are planning to use. Is it 2 cards running to one monitor, 2 cards and 2 monitors or something completely different?

3) Have a look for Zotac gtx 260 display port, they released this a while back and it sounds like it may fit the bill.

I don't see how, I just want a cheap Nvidia display port card. If the multi-gpu setup isn't possible I'l just get one single card with DP.

The reason I'm after a Display port is for an Eizo CG243W monitor. Using DVI the monitor displays the standard 16.7M colours chosen from a palette of 68 billion. Using DisplayPort the monitor can display 1.07 billion colours from the same palette. A Quadro card is a completely unnecessary expense as absolutely nothing I use benefits from having one. The card must be capable of 10bit output, though I'm unsure if DisplayPort and 10bit capability are seperate specifications? Or if all DP cards support it?

The configuration I was enquiring about was basically a hot-swappable graphics setup. Using the Displayport card for the colour advantage inside Photoshop etc, but still having use of the 260 for the occaisional game. Still running to the same monitor (The monitor supports input from multiple computers to be used as a proofing screen).
 
the only other way is have ATI, erm I think the HD5770 has a mini one through
 
well, the only once part for the pros once are those cheap things with the dp, the HD5770 will **** all over them, and properly takes as much power if not less than them

its is like HD4890 money through, its ethoir a 9500 or that

Someone has already posted two Nvidia options with DisplayPort. I don't need to go to Ati.

Does anyone have any input on my dual graphics query? Doesn't look like 260-216s are worth anything on the MM anymore so it seems like the better idea to just keep it!
 
Your dual graphics setup should work fine. Connect the GTX 260 to the monitor via DVI for gaming, then connect the new card via DP for photoshop and use the controls on the monitor to switch between inputs.

I was under the impression that it wasn't the type of display port for the increased colour pallet.

The same reason why ATi cards need an active DP>DVI adapter.

Do you have any further information to give you such an impression? The Nvidia cards would be useless if true. Whatever card it is needs to support 10bit output.

It was the bit output that's made me think this.

I was under the impression that nVidia have only just embraced 8bit colour on their cards. Though I'm not 100% on that.

What I do know though is that searching for 10 bit colour output on nVidia cards brings me to Quadro cards only.
