I have finally decided to go for the upgrade and get the below monitor:

Quick question before I hit the confirm button.
I will be using the monitor purely for gaming in 2D as I want to take advantage of the 120hz rate, am I right in thinking that to get the TRUE 120hz I need to use the display port conenction?

I have also read about dual link but not too sure what is menat by that???

If so then my next question is, my GPU is a Sapphire 6950 which has been soft modded to 6970 shaders ect but it only has mini displayport connections - will I have to use an adapter/can you get them and if so will it effect the 120hz side of things?

With that screen you'll have to use DisplayPort (DP) for 120Hz.

Dual link DVI (more connections for higher bandwidth) also supports 120Hz at 1920x1080 but the monitor you've selected doesn't have a DVI connection.

You'll need a miniDP to DP adapter to use a full size DP cable or a miniDP to DP cable.

Using a miniDP connector doesn't affect the output at all so it'll be fine for 120Hz.

Some HD 69xx cards have an adapter in the box so take a look.

Looking at reviews of Sapphire HD 6950 cards at least some of them are supplied with the adapter.

Yes. 'Mini DisplayPort' was initially developed by Apple and is most widespread on Apple hardware. It has now been adopted by certain notebooks and GPUs (such as your own) as well. It's all the same port don't worry. :)

Great thanks m8

Also does a better quality cable mean better quality image?

As I ahve seen ones for a fiver going up to 35 quid?

The signal will be just as good from the cheapest cables. Many consumers are led to believe otherwise which is why people are able to mark up the prices of their 'premium' cables so much. With a digital signal such as DisplayPort it basically either works or it doesn't. ;)
