I get the same with the 175.16's, 175.75's, and the 175.80's, get stuck in 800x600 4bit colour that i can't change, never found a solution yet unfortunately, so i just use a set of drivers that don't have the issue, which is the 175.63's out of the 175.xx series.

It's the 175.16 ones, why do nvidia release drivers that don't work? 
Interestingly enough, after I uninstalled them, the windows hardware wizard seemed to fix the problem by itself, and now it appears that the nvidia drivers are working properly, bizzare.
