Disposable BBQs

We just recently invested in a BBQ for the forthcoming season.
Last year me and the fiancee lived in a flat so didn't really have the option - however now we've bought our own house.
It had to be coal BBQ - just can't see the point of gas powered ones.
We bought a really quite cool one where you chuck on the coal, put two newspapers in a compartment about half way down the BBQ, set it alight and then 15 minutes later it's all ready to cook on.
It cost us around £100 but we feel it will be a good investment.

Sure £100 buys you a lot of disposable BBQ's but we just like to know there is plenty of heat there to cook on.

Buying a proper bbq will mean I have to wash the grill thingy tho......... and i'm lazy :p I've already got one at home anyway (my parents'), it's just when I crave for bbq'd food then i'd use the disposable ones instead of asking my parents to start a bbq for me lol

So they only last for 15-20 mins?? Can't I just put more coal in or something?

Rich_L - when did you see the small bbq in ASDA? and how small is 'small'? If it's not that big, I guess its prolly better to buy one of them instead of the disposable ones.

Mmmmmm I could go for a Barbq tonite!... luckily mine is a nice big Gas one (its like cooking... but out doors!! :D )... Strait up to Temperature!... Still get the char-grilling... I've even got a little pot of Oak shavings in there... Mmmm Nice Oak Smoked Sausages/Steaks/Chicken!.....

Then the Missus can put her feet up!...

Get a washing bowl, fill said washing bowl with hot water and add grease removing washing up liquid. Leave for an hour then come back and wipe it off.

It’s really not that hard.

Disposable BBQs are all right, however, they get very hot, for a relatively short amount of time, great for any meat which is thin so:

Burgers
Kebabs
Sausages

Do not do chicken as that requires quite slow cooking for a long time on a mediumish heat.

You don't even need bricks:

Hole in the ground, plate of metal with holes punched through on top. :D

We used load of them last year. They can be bought from loads of supermarkets, Spar, Wilkinsons etc (all the smaler ones) for about a pack of 3 for about £4-5 and they are really good. They take longer to cook things than a standard BBQ, but they are still good.

I cant be having with any desposable bbq, I use a BIG MANLY turbo gas powered BEAST!

Que Tim 'The Tool-Man' Talor style Grunting!!... :D

there cheap, easy to use and incinerate (but cook) your food. thumbs up from me.

of your you cant beat a real bbq, i love poking sausages and burgers around over the flames (and knocking one through the grills into the coal, to then pick it out, dust it off and give it one of my mates :) )

tescos do a barbie for £1.99 (or atleast they did last summer)
simple little tray/grill + legs thing, works fine, I've used it about 8 times so far and its not melted! way better than a disposable and you can use the charcole you want!

Can I please ask you to be responsible and put some bricks or something under it; as has been said, they burn a square into the grass where ever they are placed and it looks really tatty in the park after a hot day.

Have fun but think of the grass too ... ;)

I would say 99p for a disposable BBQ is pretty damn good regardless of how useless it maybe for cooking for more than 1 person, these kinda things are great for camping i guess tho

They also selling what looks to be a not bad stainless steel small BBQ for £12.99

On the site it says '[r] This product is only available in Welsh stores. ' - so.... erm...

heheh I thought you meant a barbie doll :p

I've used a few dozen, their great, take up now space in the boot and can last for upto an hour.

You don't need lighter fluid etc, as the charcoal is already soaked in it - added extra lighter fluid, and thwooom! The coal didn't last long!

I find the trick is to shuffle all the coal to one end, this means that the coal lasts a lot longer as it burns slower like that, and you also have an end to keep allready well cooked food on so you can get a nice few plates ready at the same time.

I wouldn't want to cook for more than four people on one though!
