Disposable income

Just save it until there's something you really want. Don't go looking to waste it.

Or a nice bottle of whatever your poison.

Yes I could do that, but when you read on here all the schemes people have going for money I feel a bit guilty not making it work for me some how. More so considering I don't earn much so increasing my assets seemed like the smartest thing to do.
People will only brag about success not failure or loss, save or invest it.

I'd say be careful of saving and being sensible with all your money. People drop dead all the time, and whilst it's great to save and fill up those ISA's you've also got to try and enjoy your life whilst the giving is good. If you're already saving - then hey - treat yourself, a flying lesson, new GPU, trip abroad aka live a little.

No they don't mate, this is the UK not Rwanda, life expectancy is high. Sure there are a few very unlucky people, but most people will be living into there 80s if they aren't morbidly obese or a smoker. I'd rather risk leaving some cash to my family then slogging my guts out at work at 67 because I didn't save in my 20s to retire early.

If people think they have it bad now just wait till they reach pension age with 0 savings no private pension and are not home owners, it will make the early years of living look like a walk in the park.

Holidays are out, it's not really something I'm interested in.

Plus we've just had someone hand their notice in so for the rest of the year at least I'll be lucky if I get to use up the remainder of my pitiful holiday allowance at all. That and I can't be arsed to sort a passport.

I transfer money to my savings account every month for holidays or any bigger purchases I might make.

Also good to have a bit extra for emergencies

The best idea seems to be saving the extra as has been suggested a few times by now. If you have no idea what you want save it until you do

I tend to not really have a disposable income, if I want something affordable I'll buy it. The way I save money is on payday I take whatever is left in my account and put it into an ISA, and I look at it that in effect I start with £0 each month.

This is the exact problem my generation are sleepwalking in to in the UK, There's a good chance retirement will be a thing of the past in 50 years time.

Just don't be that person who sits on a load of money just for the sake of it and have nothing to show for it. My best friend does this and he is a miserable as sin yet he has over 40k "saved" in the bank.

Chances are he'd be even more miserable with nothing in the bank, material items or costly experiences just don't make some people tick, or he may suffer from depression where no amount of spending is going to make him happy.

He just sits on his arse most of the time front of a TV and does nothing. He be more miserable when he gets type 2 diabetes but each to their own.
