Dispute RE: public parking / Foreign cars & road tax

as I mentioned in the op, the car park is always 40% empty. that's why I park on there.

the only time I have ever seen it full was new years eve, presumably because it is near the city centre and residents + their friends wanted to avoid astronomical taxi fares

I wouldn't park there if it was full all of the time. I speak to other residents often if only to be friendly. The only person who has ever taken issue is this individual.

nobody else parks on the street.

there is a guy who lives in the apartments with a lovely Clio 182 who I speak to every now and again, I may ask him what the deal is with parking.

Regardless of whether its legal or you'll get clamped etc, your actions are rather inconsiderate.

The car park is to service the apartments. You don't live in the apartments, and you are not visiting anyone who does. Therefore you shouldn't park there. I've never seen anyone's driveway say it's for "residents only", but I wouldn't stick my car on someone else's driveway.

What if everyone took your attitude and decided to park there because they didn't fancy parking on the street? What if all the residents of the apartments decided to bring their cars home, why should they park on the street because you don't want to?

Enforcing residents parking with permits etc is a PITA for the residents and their visitors, which is probably why they have chosen not to do it.

Not being funny but what the hell do people do when say their other half come around or family etc.

"Yeah sure just park it 5 mins down the road."

Come on be realistic. The car park is big enough, I know I have been there!

You are just trying to be pedantic for the hell of it.

Actually he has a point - I thought the carpark was for his girlfriends place or something.

The carpark is private and provided for the residents of the apartment complex. It isnt there to allow friends and family of people from unrelated properties to have free and convenient parking..

Though its a tricky one as you say all the properties are part of the same development run by the same people?

Possibly if anyone was being inconvenienced but they weren't, it was just some guy kicking off for the hell of it as he already had a space.

If that's the nearest legal parking place that is not on private land, then yes. What do you think people who live in terraced streets in London do?

If you think it's acceptable for people to park on any private land then I can see why you might have formed that opinion, but I disagree.

Stand and bang?

This phrase reads more homo-erotic every time you type it.

....on the subject of the actual thread, I live in a flat with an allocated space (with my number on it) and I have to deal with random members of the public parking in my space while they use the nearby facilities, or when a football match is on in which case they jam up the entire car park which is not for public use and is labelled as such.

So, I have very little sympathy for you. If you can park in the street (which is for the public) then do that.

I wish people like the one complaining would go do something useful with their time. Complaining about someone parking considerately in a mostly empty car park? Please. Is that what the endeavours of the human race have been reduced to?

Some guy approached my wife for parking in the street near his house (not outside) and claimed that it inconveniences others and that she should park behind her house (where parking is allocated and we don't have a space, we have a garage and 2 cars).

She moved her car, but I said she should have mentioned his double garage which leaves him plenty of his own parking.

Had it been me parking I would have told him where to get off as the road has parking for about 13 cars and only has 6 houses in it!

This tbh. If i was in the op's shoes i would have been so outraged that this foreigner is complaining over something so petty, i would have told him to F off back to his own country if he doesn't like it, especially as he's flouting the law himself. No i wouldn't talk to all foreigners like that, but people like that would really wind me up. Absolute **** takers.

I'm not bringing race into this, that wasn't the point of the thread.
What I do take an issue with is people not paying road tax and playing the system.
My recent telephone conversation with Staffordshire police filled me with confidence that absolutely nothing will be done about this.

@EvilDreams - if there were numbers on the spaces then I would never dream of occupying them. The point of the op was to highlight that the carpark is half empty, just now out of the window I can count more than 20 empty spaces.

This cannot be inconveniencing anyone.

Going to try and contact the company who own the car park again tomorrow.
