Dissertation Help, anyone :(

Hi everyone.

Starting this week I'll be doing 700 - 1000 words a day to complete my report atm I'm abit stuck on the terminology on what they're trying to say here.

My supervisor and advisor's are on leave for 2 weeks so I can't ask them but wondering if you guys can make some sense of it:

this should describe the project in greater detail: it will set the
scene, describe previous work, identify the need (i.e. the main aims) for the present
work and outline the contents of the following chapters. It should aim to whet the
reader’s appetite to read on. This is the point where you must state your assumptions
about your reader’s expected level of knowledge.

I have written a more detailed view of what my application does, it's about 200 words but will be expanding it to about 300 - 400 words. The text says to describe previous work. What previous work would it be talking about, my previous research and then to explain what i need to research and do for the present of my project?

The majority of my project is coded, just need to go through some things. But I want to start my report, do you have any pointers on what it means by describe previous work in the post (2 posts up)

Majority of mine was also code, the 15k was just research/design etc. before implementation.

I guess they're just referring to any other work you've done which is related? Or maybe it's asking about equivalent projects already completed elsewhere (ie competitors).

Mines Research, requirements design and implementation etc. before, during and after the project. I believe at this stage of the introduction it states that my coded project shouldn't be complete just yet.

I believe it could be research that i needed to look at to update my aims for the project, maybe I'll just describe what new things i have learned to actual implement into my program.
 
Just to let everyone know, I managed to complete the Project Report with a total of around 12000 words, had a meeting with the supervisor a day before the deadline and she said that she won't be looking at an exact word count. I gave in a 70% complete program, but again the supervisor told me I can continue working on it until the demonstration.

So I'm happy I managed to get it done. It's a whole load off my shoulders!

Received a preliminary Mark for my work and it's a high 2:2 with the viva I might just get a 2:1 but I have to just wait and see.

Overall I'm happy since it was 2 weeks work.
