Dissertation help!

Done,

Interesting to see a survey on the difference of opinion on stylised VS cartoon VS realistic.

A good time to do it really, as realistic graphics get better I'd wager the popularity of that group will increase.

Historically games were better stylised (as they lacked the power to do realistic without looking "dodgy")

I'm playing with allot of different art myself & I'm still undecided to stick with stylised or go for a more realistic approach.

Thanks IRLeetly, Elmarko and Edrof :D

Got an ace amount of results and info, I won't be analyzing it for a week or so. SO if anyone else wants to help me on my endeavor then please feel free <3

I've always wondered why students still have to do dissertations...especially on a Game Design course.

Why wouldn't they have to? For most people it's the biggest bit of work they'll do as an undergraduate, their first experience into real research, and a chance to put the skills they're learnt in the last 2 or 3 years into practice.

It would make more sense to have game design students do a design document industry standard instead of making them do a glorified essay on a subject topic.

They can structure it with a bibliography and all sorts not to mention add to it as they do their final year game project. For people not actually doing dissertations in working life, it makes no sense for them to do it at Uni when they could do a professional version of whatever documents they will be compiling at work in their chosen industries/ sectors or whatever..pro boffins can stick their essays and whatnot.

I think one of us has got the wrong idea about what a dissertation actually is. It's not just a glorified essay on a random topic, it will be based on a large bit of work they've done in their final year, likely the final year game project that you've talked about. At least that's what I've always known them as.

They'll do their research on the area, make the game/video/design/whatever it is for their subject as the project, and then submit their work in the form of the project and the dissertation written about the work they've been doing throughout that year. At least that's how I've known it to be.
