Dissertation... the final road

I ended up writing over 14k words for a module in 2 weeks or so and the sad thing is that it was worth 4 times less than my actual third year project which ended up around 5000 words. However the latter did involve a field trip and field notes, data processing, a presentation and the final write up! That ended up about 40 something pages including the appendix. I'm glad that's all over.

mines at 56 pages so far, just finished referencing, which is 3 pages long. still gotta do bibliography and appendices... man this is gonna take me all night to get the annoying pointless bits out the way!

Reference list and Bibliography?

Why both? Bit odd.

Reference list is what youve actually read and referenced in your work, bibliography is a list of reading that you have done but not directly referenced in your work :)

Mine went in on monday, 19,600 words. Hoping for a reasonable mark for it.

I know what they are, it's just odd to have both (well a bibliography at all) at the uni level.

Maybe it's different areas but we were taught in our first year never to use bibliographies and write essays and dissertations like papers in journals (ie references only).

I have so much to write up before next fridays due date. I have piece's of paper everywhere. Early next week I can see a couple of all nighters so I can get everything done early.

just finished making my cd's, hand in tomorrow, deadline for wednesday :)

It boild down to a 4 second animation... which sounds pathetic. :D

My title: "An investigation into a character transformation in a current gen engine"

Yes it was FUDGING HARD. 63 pages and 10500 words :)

Finished writing my research project last night! My degree is MEng Chemical Engineering, research topic is in solid-state physics. 21,500 words over 90 pages and just need to add in a few more diagrams into the start. Second dissertation in 2 years after my BEng one last year, glad it's all over now :p

Ha makes my 10,000 word report on drugs and crime in the UK sound easy! Has to be in next Weds and done 3,000 words so far ... although it does include some original research :)

I've actually done the lot now, had the presentation and poster session last week.

I've had the screen running plugged in to the CBR600RR motor, it all works, the temperature is absolutely nailed, the RPM is a bit funky.

Now I get to make it for for the Formula Student team without having to think about a write up, which means I get to enjoy polishing it. Next up is a time averaging feature to smooth out the RPM. Measuring half crank rotations was never going to be accurate in hindsight.

I was doing my dissertation...

In the last 72 hours, i was taking 8 Pro Plus tablets each day (on the third day i took 12 tablets - overdose). Handed the work in (20 minutes before deadline), went home, walked in through the door, entered my room. Collapsed on the bed shortly after.

Slept for 15 hours konked out.

Woke up the next day in the morning, thought lets check the submission.
Oh my god at all the errors :S Grammer, Spelling, Punctuation.... Hell even had a plagurism problem (incorrect referencing on 4 major points). Abstract was a mess, introduction needing refining.

Phoned the university, pulled my dissertation out, and resubmitted it with the edited copy.

I may get capped at 71%... But atleast it assures me of an A.

My only regret is taking the pro plus. If i left the tablets alone, got a good night sleep each day, i wouldnt of made the errors and id of got the dissertation in on time... penalty free.

Live and learn \o/

My Dissertation was on: Can a Hybrid development methodology help mitigate the potential failure while utilising a standard development methodology such as the SDLC.

The joys of being an information system student :P

I'm surprised they let you pull it out and submit it again!

Mine is all done now, submitted it yesterday ahead of today's deadline. 90 pages the main report, 76 pages of code listing. Got my demonstration session next week..

Good luck with the demonstration =)

My disso ended up being 13,000 words (hard limit of 10,000)

In the end what i did was..... i just screenshot pages and reinserted them as JPEG files that would fill the pages... without a loss of quality. Saved 3k words. within limit. Not penalised
:D

worked in other pieces of courseworks... hope it works with this :D

I'm just starting on this long journey - for those of you that created surveys etc, did you have to seek ethical approval before starting? So many flaming forms to fill out!!!

Just got my provisional mark from my tutor on my dissertation. Somehow pulled out 85% and i was not expecting anywhere near that. Now all those sleepless night have paid off and I'm ecstatic with the mark. Still can't believe i got anywhere near that :)

Mines in tomorrow.
Not looking forward to the expected 3 hour queue for the binder. May take some beers.

If you haven't already then it may be worth looking into the binding options for some print shops in town, they may well be at or around the same price plus since fewer people think to use them you'll get it done quicker.
