Disturbing quality control problems w/ Fractal Design Define R3

Other than the flimsy rubber grommets, I didn't have any problems during the build.

Perhaps a stern email to their head would yield better results than a CS rep and another RMA.

I bought mine about 2 months ago and it arrived all the notches that hold the front panel totally smashed. My retailer got a new front panel sent straight from Fractal and all has been well. It seems like a common thing for the r3 :(

And the XL, mine arrived broken like that last week or week before (Time goes fast).. also another guy on this forum had his arrive in the same condition.. worrying.

But when not broken, the cases seem solid.

Don't really know why ur blaming fractal designs for the damaged case all these problems are due to transportation not manfacturing. So if u silly enough not to RMA it (or don't care enough) don't moan at the company.

Let's put it this way every fractal case i've seen and made builds for has been perfect but as always use a Courier that u trust (i like DPD, hate city link). It's so obvious that it was just some dumbass who dropped it in transit.

So guy's if ur worried about getting a case that is damaged then the safest by far is to actually visit the store (if u wanna make sure it's perfect that is). Otherwise don't blame a manfacturer if ur case gets damaged in transit and u cant be bothered to RMA it :P.

Oddly, Ive got a case (Define XL) and the rear right leg shows the exact same issue. Also the chassis is bent and is actually missing a core rivet at the front of the case. Not investigated further yet but im going to have to get some bolts to sort the issue out :(

We have said time and time again fractal cases have gone down the pan, why do people keep buying them and are then surprised by shoddy quality?

That's the sort of weight fully fledged reviews have over forum banter and youtube disaster vids. People just take a gamble and hope for the best, which is fine for a computer enthusiast, but if the person is not comfortable with the RMA dance, it's best not to temp one's good fortune. :)

Hi Rroff thanks for the reply - I certainly think something like that as you describe must have happened with the fan door's clasp being broken but the issue with the foot must be quality control at the manufacturer imo.

fyi - the packaging of the thing overall seemed pretty strong and robust.

BTW.. disagree with you on 'temps'. I normally find it's the guys that have been there a while (permanent employees) that do that kind of thing.

Gutting about the case, I hope you get it sorted out.

I got my case yesterday and have not swapped everything over yet, but the case looks soild box had been thrown about but it is in PERFECT condition, so i guess its just luck of the draw

I think that the panels are way too thin, feel so cheap and flimsy. Put me off Fractal cases - no reviews mention this at all which is alarming... people must just get on with it, but it'd be good to see and feel some decent quality panels rather than the ones currently used. (Fractal R2)... maybe someone can tell me they've improved it with the R3?

I also have a r3 I'm currently building in.

The only things I've noticed so far are -

A) The grommets, they are pish. I knew they weren't the best from watching reviews etc but if you even touch the water cooling ones they just fall in. Also the power supply one isn't in the best position so when I had all my power supply cables through (non modular) I had to remove the grommet. No way was it going to stay in place.

B) the side panels. They seem a bit tricky to get on and off. Not sure why yet, but there always seems to be one catch that seems to not want to play nice.

No other issues noticed so far.

Got mine on Monday. No structural problems that I've found though, sounds like they've been dropped, i can see the plastic bits not being that strong and the side panels seem quite flexible. I agree about the rubber cable management parts, they could be a lot stiffer. Other than that it seems to be doing a good job! It's one sexy case.
