We have been with BT for donkeys years, with very few issues at all on the hardware/connection side.

Customer service and billing is another story with me having to ring em every 18 months or so to sort out yet another billing error that should have been resolved. Anyway they've cocked up again pushing my bill up to full price because they said I had come to the end of the 12 month contract, even though after 30+ mins on the phone they held their hand up to me being sold an 18 month contract anyway. To cap it off they admitted they couldn't offer me as good a deal as a new customer (Been with them 25+ years)

Anyway I rang PlusNet, got through almost instantly and chap could not be more helpful, in addition to being a fair bit cheaper.

Question is how is their service/reliability? Better, worse or just on-par with everyone else?

I forgot to ask them, but can I retain and use my BT Hub5??

Cheers.

There's no reason to not use Plusnet. I've been a happy customer for several years.

Your BT Hub should work. If you're getting 'fibre' from Plusnet the router they supply is a rebadged HH5 anyway.

Don't forget to go via Quidco or TopCashback for additional savings.

Cheers just thought I'd ask. I'm sure like most things there will be a range of opinions. Even with only one telephone conversation under my belt customer service seems way better than BT. I'm just a bit of a dinosaur and probably don't switch providers enough, which has become the way of the world.

If no one shouts up anything disastrous, I'll pull the trigger and do the switch. Show stopper would be not being able to retain our current telephone number.

I successfully transferred a Virgin phone number to Plusnet for my mother. BT to Plusnet shouldn't be an issue, especially if it has always been a BT number.

I was a plus net customer for years 10+ years, had 2 issues and the customer service was spot on. I only left because virgin arrived in my area and I couldn't resist the extra speed.

Are there email servers OK. Never gave it a thought, virtually every email I have is with BT. I assume I can copy/import them over???

Either keep using Your BT address or create something portable on outlook.com (or the free provider of your choice).

Having your email with an ISP makes changing ISPs a hassle.

Aye, I'm going to end up just importing what I can or fowarding my entire inbox to PlusNet..

Nevermind, as they say you live and learn. I've been with BT for so long I just forgot what a pain it would be.

Thanks for the comments all ;):):)

I change from BT to Plusnet or back the other way every cycle to get the new customer cashback. Never had an issue, switch is seamless, dont even change the hub, just the login details when the old service disconnects.

I help my mum out with her email on PlusNet, the web app is pretty poor to be honest but functional. As above, I'd recommend setting an independent one up with Google, Microsoft etc.

BT owns Plusnet, I just re-contracted with Plusnet after some negotiation for less than I was paying with them previously. Played them off against BT.

Took me a while to realise this (laziness more then anything else) but you have to treat you ISP like your mobile phone provider and move around every 18 months after 'the offer period' ends.

I was with Plusnet for years and I was very happy with them, reailable service great call center but I was paying £40 odd per month for their service which was twice the price of thier competitors. In the end I went to talk talk and I'm paying half what I was paying Plusnet (who wouldn't give me the same deal as thier new customers got). Talk Talk supplied a decent router (not botherd using my older Asus router) but the connection isn't as stable as Plusnet and it can slow right down to the point where I reset the wi-fi card on my computer (USB just pull it and put it back in again).

So not as good but for what i'm paying I can't complain.

Personally I can't fault Plusnet. Had 1x line issue (not their fault), which was quickly sorted by using their Live Chat, they booked an 'engineer' to visit after doing a line test and he fixed an issue in my cab.

The manager from BT who rang me last evening, actually said "you'll be absolutely fine with PlusNet. They are a good company, they use our infrastructure anyway"
