After years with the same provider for phone [who even uses a landline these days?] TV and 1GB broadband we are ditching Virgin. Been with the same company since it was Cambridge Cable so probably getting on towards 30 years. Recently it has been horrendous with the net dropping out for 12 hours at a time for no apparent reason so time for a change.

Broadband we will probably go with Youfibre but undecided on the solution for TV. I have Nvidia Shield Pro in one of the rooms and Firecubes everywhere else but none of these have the ability to record as far as I am aware.

What do you suggest in terms of Freeview recorders?

Ditched sky recently. Replaced with Plex but we torrent anything outside of the usual Netflix Amazon Disney etc.

What's on that you watch and are trying to record?

I dont actually watch much TV but the other half does and records the usual rubbish. Something capable of good playback 1080p min but ideally 4k and 500gb drive.

I did the same about a year ago. There are Freeview PVRs available, Manhattan and Humax are the two main brands and should work pretty well.

I have personally been using Plex on a NAS box streaming to an AppleTV, but that's a bit more effort to setup and requires a NAS box to act as a server, plus a suitable Freeview tuner (I use an HDHomeRun), which works well (though they have just updated and completely ruined the iOS app so will see how that goes!)
