Yes, yet another "tell me about this stuff before I buy it" thread.... :D

Nikon D50 SILVER+18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens + 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens (£549)

OR

Nikon D50 (Black) + 18-55mm Lens + Sigma 70-300mm DG Lens (£509)

I'm swinging more towards the Black D50 deal, as the Sigma lens will also satisfy my yearning to try some macro photography, without blowing the budget....I'd like not to burst £550, as I still have to budget in a spare battery or 2, and a bag....I've was using my old mans D70 last weekend, and I like the general feel of the Nikon.

Gah. I've been researching for weeks now, still can't make my mind up!

to be honest, I wouldn't want to touch any of those lenses. Long focal lengths such as that of a 55-200mm will never be of any great quality, and the 70-300mm is abysmal if it's not the APO version, and very much touch-and-go even if it is.

The standard kit lens will be okay, and by all accounts its better than Canon's 350D 18-55 jobby. Still, I'm sure people will be telling you to have a hunt for the D50 +18-70mm kit, which can be had for under £500 and will give you far more bang for buck.
