Hey guys, I am a broke grad student (otherwise just known as a grad student) and I want a backup PC to use, probably as a HTPC but perhaps low level gaming. I don't have the money to buy a new PC, but I have wrangled myself a laptop that was pretty good a few years ago for free, as the screen is broken and the case is mashed up. It's nothing amazing, but it works and it's better than my current laptop.
My plan is to take it apart, and mount the vital components into a small form factor PC case, then link it up to my tv/monitor and speakers. As it is a laptop motherboard I expect I will have to DIY a case, so I was wondering what suggestions people had for matterials?
My first idea was wood like the Tenuis project, but now I'm leaning towards using a concrete shell to make something pretty cool and unique. What matterials have you guys used for building cases from scratch, and what tips do you have?
Thanks!
