DIY Disaster Stories

How does one cut the power to a consumer box in such situations & not die?....plastic sandles, oven gloves & wooden cooking spoon to flick the main switch :D. I didn't have long to think.

Pull the main fuse from the meter cupboard assuming it was outside, modern installs will have an isolation switch there too.

Well this is the best thread in a long, long time. The dimmer switch one had me laughing hysterically :D :D he cut a hole out of the door hahaha

There are plenty of videos of "qualified" tradesmen doing this!!

I bought one the next day. :D

Got a Fluke voltage detector pen and a neon indicator screwdriver.

These are banned at the my work, not sure why, I guess they had an incident at some point.

I was given the task of changing the crappy contractor bath taps to something more pleasant by the then gf. No problem, lovely new taps were bought and I got on with the job, isolation valves didn't fully hold so there was still some water running as I disconnected the old taps. Seemed Ok so I carried on and fitted new taps with water slowly pouring out, bosh all good.

Happy with a job well done I get shouted at that there is a sizable wet patch on the downstairs wc ceiling. Hmm Ok, on investigation I then decided to see just how damaged the ceiling was by giving a gentle nudge with my fingers and a fair sized chunk of the ceiling fell down.

Hole is still there to this day!!
