Looking to make a garden gate to separate the good part of the garden from the working part.

I have had a measure and the gap is around 1.3m is that too wide for a gate around 3ft6 in height? The gate will be hinged from a fence post screwed into the house exterior wall, was planning on using 2x4 for the frame as I have some of that lying around, or should I look at 2x6?

I have looked and seems to be the diagonal needs to be the right way it should go I think from the top right down to the bottom left if the gate is hinged on the left?

Yes I know I have mixed metric and imperial but that is the way my brain works for some things.

Thanks

1.3m is not too big you should be fine, make sure you use 3 hinges, good quality and that the post is securely fixed to the wall
And as the video above diagonal braces
3x2 or even 4x 1 1/4 would also work

Are you going to use featheredge boards or shiplap (tongue & groove)?
These can still be a bit wet after all the rain we have had, i would store them in a shed for at least a week before adding them to the frame.
You are correct with the diagonals, the high/low corner goes towards the hinges.
Also get some decent good quality gate furniture, the stuff diy stores sell is mostly crap.
2x4 is fine to screw to the wall, as long as it has been treated. you will want 120mm wall anchors or go with chemical screw anchors.

Was going to use feather board as we have a bunch left over from a fencing project, just need to dig it out and check on the quality of it.

Using 2 x 4 as the hinge anchor on the wall side is easier as don't need to get a long drill bit for the 4x4 post.

Thanks for the help

Another option is to have the gate narrower, more standard width and build a bit of fencing for the rest of the gap... But if you're making it from scratch that's probably more complicated.
