I'm on track at Snetterton next Tuesday and was wanting a mount that would work somewhere inside the car. I looked for headrest mounts and the cheapest was £33, but he was away until Tuesday, so no good to me. The next best priced was around £45... so I thought I'd make my own!

It's not pretty, but seems to do a great job. I have wondered about wrapping it in black tape, so it blends in a little better and I think I need to jab something in to the holes, to make a tighter fit on the headrest columns.

Quite easy to do though, even for a DIY n00b like me!

I like it! :D

Just need to paint it black and it'll look more subtle. I suppose you could use any material really, or you could just put it across one seat with it overhanging so it doesn't act as a brace?

Thanks. Yeah, I have about 20" of handle left, I offered it to a mate so he could do just that if he wanted.

I guess in some ways that's even better. At the moment, I need to keep the seats in alignment so the camera points straight. Maybe it would vibrate more though?

I'm not sure. :)

I'm guess 2 anchor points with a little overhang will have little moments of inertia anyway owing to the light weight. Does a GoPro have image stabilisation?

Suction cups are banned from almost all tracks.

This looks like a great cheap mount.

Not any more! As long as you have a tether to it they normally let you on now. Well MSV & Javelin do, yet to see if bookatrack will.

I have a GoPro iPhone mount on my windscreen 3M or a suction mount (Montar Universal Car Holder) on my dashboard and they both get past the marshalls without issue. I've also tried the GoPro iPhone mount on a suction mount and that's been ok too with them.

Thanks for the comments guys.

On the Mustang forum, someone is concerned about the wood splintering off in an accident and it being so close to my neck. Surely that's very unlikely, even in a high impact collision?

Could only see that happening if you hit something side on at real high speed causing the seats to move closer.

Looks great, might have to do something similar when I get on the track! :D

I made similar, the footage was shakey as hell and could barely see over the dash. You have done a test run right? I only found out mine was terrible afterwards :p

Can't do that on mine, headrest is motorised and has no metal prongs!

I can sticky one to the headrest arm though so it's overlooking my head on the right side looking forwards. Will need to sort one out for August for a Scotland roadtrip

Although instead of GoPro it will be my phone with the wide lens case. The videos should be so smooth from the OIS :D

Outside maybe, but they are a total no go inside.

Its up to the circuit owner, not the TDO too. MSV have banned helmet mounted cameras at all their tracks too now, which is a real shame as I loved the helmet mounted footage.
