I have recently dropped a 2TB Seagate Barracuda mechanical hard drive. Since this the state of the drive is - it can be detected but no files can be read and most operations are impossible from what I can tell.

I had the possibly terrible idea of buying the same model again and transferring the platters from old to new.

Has anyone attempted this? I'm guessing that this is risky business but if it worked the price of recovery goes from hundreds to the price of the new hard drive which seems to be around £70.
