Rip them to your comp, chuck the boxes where ever you want, put a server in the attic instead, run ethernet cables around the house and stream whenever you want. Very simple job.
On the other hand, what you have suggested is fine. Depending on the distance between beams, you may need to put some timber running diagonally through your shelves for support. But I doubt its needed. Just some sheets of MDF and either use metal brackets or a wooden frame. Nothing too hard. Make sure your attic has a solid floor before standing on it.
